The home page for the diocesan website will feature more local news, photos and videos. New, improved diocesan website online By Rod Treat, webmaster A s anyone who has visited the diocesan website knows, we have been in need of an updated and more user-friendly site for quite some time. Although the old website adequately served the needs of the diocese for a few years, it has become outdated and cumbersome, resulting in a rapidly decreasing number of return visits. We are very happy to announce that we now have an entirely new home on the Internet. The Web address remains the same, www.dioceseoftulsa.org, but we think everyone will find the redesigned pages much easier to use. Over the past 18 months, we have con-sidered a number of options for either acquiring or building a new website. Cost considerations pushed us in the direction of doing an entire redesign in-house. With what is quite possibly the involve-ment of some Divine providence, we re-cently stumbled upon eCatholic, a Catho-lic division of WebPro Productions, which is a Web design and hosting company located in College Station, Texas. eCatho-lic’s mission is to provide Catholic dioceses and parishes with the tools to easily and affordably produce and maintain attractive, dynamic and user-friendly websites that utilize the latest technologies available. Af-ter experimenting with eCatholic’s website development tools and comparing the low cost to options we had recently considered, it didn’t take long to decide this was ex-actly what we needed to produce a website that would more than adequately serve the needs of our diocese. Throughout his papacy, Pope Bene-dict XVI has emphasized the need for the Church to be an active and engaged presence in the rapidly expanding digital landscape and to use the new technologies that have transformed communications as powerful tools in the New Evangelization. The Diocese of Tulsa is committed to heed-ing the Holy Father’s wise and timely call to action by putting the new technologies to work in spreading the Gospel of Jesus St. Joseph Calasanz, priest Aug. 25 | St. Monica Aug. 27 | 14 Eastern Oklahoma Catholic / July/August 2012 / www. dioceseoftulsa .org
