The ‘Venerable’ Sister Mary Frances Streitel Sister Mary Frances of the Cross Streirtel, foundress of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother, has been conferred Venerable by Pope Benedict XVI. The title of Venerable confirms that Mother Frances “has walked in the footsteps of Christ,” and she now can be presented as a candidate for beatification. Bishop Edward J. Slattery in May celebrated a Thanksgiving Mass with the Sisters, whose order established St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. “Let’s continue to pray for the Venerable Mother Mary Frances Strietel of the Cross – a woman of courage, faith and endurance in all of the sufferings she went through for the love of her Lord,” said Sister M. Terisina Marra, S.S.M.
